Panorama from Baie de Pempoul looking at IIot Sainte Anne
The forecast had warned of cloud and possible thunderstorms. We woke up to hazy skies. Undeterred and optimistic we still slathered on the sun cream and headed down to the beach.
The tide was out so ball games were played and then as the tide came in a little the kids headed out to meet it for a swim. Unfortunately the sun never made it fully out and soon we felt the first few large spots of rain. Gathering everything up we made it back to Monty and the shelter of the gazebo as the rain came down. It was just a quick downpour, still warm and thunder free although still cloudy for the rest of the day. The kids went back to the sea after lunch and then into the pool.
We went for a walk to the “island” that is in front of our pitch. It used to have a chapel on it in the 1600’s and had been a defence point as well. The tarmac road access which also reaches the harbour/sailing club had been made in the 1970s. There are steps to the top where the remains of the chapel can be seen.
From this vantage point you get a good panoramic view and can see the ferry port at nearby Roscoff.
At the entrance of Al Kluger there is a piece of flat, gravelly land where boules is often played. Tonight it had been transformed with a stage for live bands, a beer tent and mussels and chips. Later when the concert had finished and we were back in bed it was very noisy with teenagers messing about. Whether they were from onsite or were locals who had come onto the site after the concert, they were having a great time knocking on doors and running off….. Finally we got to sleep.
Lovely place stayed at that campsite twice, There is also a beautiful Campsite just outside Cherbourg named Lainse Du Brick with great sea views and a very nice restaurant and facilities including a covered in swimming pool
